On April 30, 2023, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit took over a robbery investigation involving two female victims at a pop-up carnival in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West.
Police met with one of the victims, who contacted police after the incident. She had visible upper body injuries and indicated that she and her friend (also in her late teens) attended the fair on April 28. At approximately 11:00 p.m., they were standing in a concession line when they were unexpectedly assaulted from behind by an unknown adult female. One of the victims was pulled to the ground, where the assault continued until an on-site security officer intervened. The suspect grabbed one of the victim’s purses and ran away.
As the two teen victims exited the fair, they were confronted by a group of teens who threatened and started chasing them. The two females were again assaulted until security intervened, stopped the assault, and retrieved the previously stolen purse. The group of suspects fled.
One of the victims received medical treatment for her injuries, while the extent of the other victim’s injuries is believed to be minor.
Two of the suspects were described as:
- An Indigenous adult female, approximately 5’4” in height, with a medium build and long black hair in a ponytail.
- A tall Indigenous teenage male with a white hoody and black/grey jeans.
This investigation is still under investigation. If anyone has information regarding this incident or the related suspects, please contact the Major Crimes Unit at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
