Aggravated Assault Update – Arrest: C23-72653

Update:

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service continued investigating the unprovoked assaults of a 56-year-old male victim and a second yet-to-be-identified victim on March 30, 2023.

North District, General Patrol officers identified an adult male suspect through the investigation.

On April 27, 2023, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the suspect attended the intersection of Graham Avenue and Smith Street, where he was observed harassing pedestrians for an extended period. Central District General Patrol Officers attended and recognized the male as the same suspect in the abovementioned incidents. Officers placed the suspect under arrest without incident.

Aaron Dean Roger LAQUETTE, 31, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

- Assault Cause Bodily Harm

- Assault

He was detained in custody.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information, including video surveillance in this area, or who interacted with the suspect is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6316 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

 

As previously released:

On March 30, 2023, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the Seven Oaks General Hospital for the report of a male who had been assaulted at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Princess Street.

North District General Patrol Officers, met with the 56-year-old male victim suffering from injuries sustained from a physical assault. He was transported to hospital by a good samaritan and received medical care.

Officers learned the victim was walking westbound on Pacific Street at approximately 8:00 a.m. when the suspect approached him. The suspect struck the victim in the upper body without provocation, causing him to fall to the sidewalk. The suspect fled on foot before police arrived.

During their investigation, officers learned that after assaulting the first victim, the same suspect physically assaulted a second yet-to-be-identified victim in the 200 block of Princess Street. (The second assault has yet to be reported to police). The assault caused the victim to fall momentarily before rising to his feet and fleeing to safety. The suspect fled on foot before police arrived.

An initial suspect photograph and physical description are provided below:

- A male, 25 to 40 yrs of age

- Approximately 5’8” to 6’2” in height

- Larger build

- Wearing a black jacket

- No race description
