On April 6, 2023, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service General Patrol members encountered a single motor vehicle collision involving an armoured security truck westbound Portage Avenue at Carlton Street.

The vehicle had struck a concrete pillar for the overhead Skywalk, causing the truck to flip over, and the driver remained trapped inside. A second occupant managed to free himself, and police provided him with emergency medical care until the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service arrived. The driver was extracted, and both victims were transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

Investigators learned that someone may have approached the collision scene, stolen some property from the vehicle, and fled.

This investigation is being continued by the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information can call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
