In March of 2023, the Winnipeg Police Service entered a firearm investigation involving several suspects and a residence in the City’s North End.
On March 29, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, the Guns & Gangs Unit executed a search warrant on a residence in the 400 block of Boyd Avenue. Two suspects were located within the residence and placed under arrest without incident.
Investigators seized several items from the residence, including the following:
- A loaded Mauser C96 handgun with 9mm ammunition
- A sawed-off Remington 12-gauge shotgun (reported stolen November 27, 2022, in the 2500 block of Portage Avenue)
- A loaded Remington .22 calibre rifle with ammunition
- A sawed-off shotgun with an obliterated serial number
- An assault-type CO2-powered air rifle
- Various ammunition and prohibited magazines
Justin Herbert CRANE, 24, from Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations x 4
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized x 4
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized x 3
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 4
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 4
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 4
He was detained in custody.
A 25-year-old female from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations x 4
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 4
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition x 3
She was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
