Homicide – Arrest: C23-1632

Update:

The Homicide Unit continued investigating the January 2023 homicide of a 23-year-old female, Star Alicia THOMAS.

On March 27, 2023, a 26-year-old male, Joey Robertson LECOY of Winnipeg, was arrested and charged with THOMAS’ murder. The accused, LECOY and the victim THOMAS were previously known to each other.

On January 3, 2023, Star was located with serious injuries inside an apartment fire in the 700 block of Sargent Avenue and succumbed to her injuries.  

LECOY was charged with the following offences:

- Second Degree Murder

- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Orders x 5

He was detained in custody.
 

As previously released:

On January 3, 2023,  at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 700 block of Sargent Avenue for an apartment fire. The WFPS was on scene, and paramedics had transported an adult female to hospital who succumbed to her injuries.

Due to the nature of this death, the Homicide Unit took over the investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Star Alicia THOMAS, a 23-year-old female of Winnipeg.
