On March 23, 2023, at 4:01 a.m., East District General Patrol units responded to the 100 block of Aubert Street for a report of a female found in an SUV with a gunshot wound to her lower body. The vehicle had also collided with a fence.

Upon arrival, officers worked to access the female (in her 30s), as the broken fence had pinned some of the vehicle’s doors. She was subsequently transported by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service to a hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.

It is believed that earlier in the night, the victim was at a neighbouring condominium when she was threatened and chased by a male suspect with a handgun and a BB gun. She was then shot and struck with the firearm.

The male, now in the company of a female suspect, dragged the victim into a nearby SUV. The female drove into the yard of an adjacent residence and got the vehicle stuck. The victim was assaulted, and the two suspects eventually fled.

A roving security guard came across the vehicle (with the victim inside) three hours later and contacted 911.

It is also believed that the male had threatened the victim with a firearm a week earlier and that both suspects were known to her.

At approximately 1:48 p.m., East District Community Support units attended an apartment building in the 200 block of Midwinter Avenue and took the female suspect into custody. The male suspect leapt from a second-floor window but was also arrested.

Ten ounces of methamphetamine (with an estimated street value of $3,500) and a BB gun were recovered from the SUV at the scene.
