Sexual Assault & Exploitation – Arrest: R22-22857

In October 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Child Abuse Unit received a report regarding a sexual assault and luring of a teenage student who attended Acadia Junior High.

The survivor reported that over seven months between 2021 and 2022, a teacher at this school forged an inappropriate relationship with her. During this timeframe, there was sexual communication using social
media.

On one occasion, while at school, the accused attempted to kiss the survivor. She pulled away and ran. The survivor was not physically injured during these incidents.

The Child Abuse Unit continued to investigate and, on March 4, 2023, arrested a former teacher of Acadia Junior High.

A 32-year-old male, Jan Marcopined LAYA of Winnipeg, was charged with the following offences:

- Sexual Assault

- Sexual Interference

- Invitation to Sexual Touching

- Luring a Person Under 14 years of age by Means of Telecommunication

- Luring a Person Under 16 years of age by Means of Telecommunication

- Transmit, Make Available, Distribute or Sell Sexually Explicit Material to a Person Under 16yrs

He was released on a Release Order with conditions prohibiting contact and communication with children under the age of 18.
