On February 19, 2023, at approximately 1:50 p.m., North District Community Support Units of the Winnipeg Police Service observed a black Chevrolet Silverado bearing stolen license plates operated by a lone suspect in the City’s North End.

Officers attempted to contain the vehicle in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue; however, the vehicle collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle, rammed the cruiser and fled westbound. After a short distance, the suspect vehicle collided with a civilian vehicle at Inkster Boulevard and McGregor Street intersection, causing extensive damage to both vehicles and knocking down multiple light standards. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly caught by officers and placed under arrest.

The suspect and officers involved in the initial collision reported no injuries but were assessed and medically cleared by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service as a precaution. The 31-year-old driver of the struck vehicle required no medical attention, while two female passengers, aged 30 years and a 55-years, were transported to hospital in stable condition and treated for minor injuries.

Through their investigation, officers learned the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was reported stolen from the 500 block of Osborne Street on February 14, 2023. Officers also learned the license plates were reported stolen on February 17, 2023.
