On January 13, 2023, at approximately 11:20 p.m., a K9 Unit was travelling past the 600 block of Balmoral Street when the officer noticed a male victim on the ground with blood near him. A male and female were standing over him.

Soon after, the male and female fled on foot. The K9 officer took the male into custody after a short chase.

The victim, a male in his 40s, was found to have been stabbed, and with the help of a Central District General Patrol unit, he was provided emergency medical care, including the use of multiple chest seals. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.

It is believed that the male suspect and the male victim (previously unknown to each other) had been at a nearby beer vendor when an argument ensued and escalated to a stabbing.

Ryan Kyle Nicholas, a 31-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of a Weapon

He was detained.
