On January 6, 2023, at approximately 5:15 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service entered into an investigation regarding an adult male posting online threats to harm police officers and exhibiting suicidal ideations.

The Tactical Support Team, along with General Patrol officers from the Central, North, and West Districts, attended the suspect’s residence located in the 300 block of Cumberland Avenue. Officers evacuated residents of the apartment complex due to public safety concerns and as a result of direct threats made by the suspect toward police officers. After residents were conveyed to safety, TST members made contact with the suspect and safely placed him under arrest after successfully deploying a conductive energy weapon. The suspect was medically cleared on the scene by Tactical Emergency Medical Support members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service. No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Jean-Paul Pierre DAIGNEAULT, 35, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

- Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm

He was detained in custody.
