On January 4, 2023, at approximately 9:40 a.m., a North District Community Support unit was patrolling in the 200 block of Austin Street North when they observed a group of males in a rear lane – one brandishing a machete.

After noticing the police vehicle, the male attempted to conceal the machete in a backpack. Officers exited their car and approached the male, but he fled on a bicycle. He was followed to a nearby yard, where he resisted arrest and punched an officer in the face while being taken into custody. The officer suffered minor injuries.

The male was found to be in possession of two machetes (12” and 14”-long blades) and a makeshift metal-throwing star.

- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition (x3)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
