On January 1, 2023, at approximately 3:15 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the first 100 block of Copperwood Court for the report of a male armed with a firearm.

General Patrol officers from the West District, assisted by a Canine Unit, attended and arrested an adult male suspect outside of his residence without incident. Officers seized eight (8) firearms from the residence as evidence and in the interest of public safety.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the suspect and owner of the residence became involved in a verbal argument with a 19-year-old female victim and a 23-year-old male victim in attendance for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Investigators learned the suspect brandished a handgun and racked the slide in front of the victims while directing them to leave his residence. The victims left the residence to safety and contacted police.

48-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

- Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations x 3

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
