On January 1, 2023, at approximately 11:15 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responding to an unrelated incident at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Kennedy Street, observed a large garbage bin fire at the rear of the building. Officers summoned The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS).

While investigating the matter, Central District General Patrol officers were informed of several fires set in different locations within the complex. Officers searched the area and located an adult female matching the suspect's description in the 500 block of Balmoral Street. Officers safely placed her under arrest and seized a knife, fire extinguisher, and materials used to start a fire in her possession.

Through their investigation, officers learned a suspect set fire to different locations within the complex before attending to the rear of the building and setting fire to the garbage bin, causing approximately $2,000 in damages. Members of the WFPS contained the fires, and no injuries were reported.

A 28-year-old female from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

- Arson Causing Damage to Property x 2
- Possession of Incendiary Material
- Possession of a Weapon

She was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
