Gun Discharge - Arrest: C22-301109

On December 31, 2022, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to Broadway and Maryland Street for the report of gunshots to a vehicle.

Central District General Patrol officers assisted by the Tactical Support Team located the damaged vehicle occupied by a 38-year-old female driver and a 65-year-old female passenger. The passenger suffered an upper-body injury caused by the resulting shattered glass.

Officers identified and attended a residence in the 700 block of Broadway and located a male suspect. Officers seized a replica airsoft handgun and a machete as evidence. Through their investigation, officers learned the suspect discharged the handgun from the residence in the direction of the involved vehicle shattering a window in the process and injuring the victim. 

The victims and the suspect were previously unknown to one another.

Joshua Clifford Walter BEAR, 18, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

- Assault with a Weapon
- Discharge Air Gun or Pistol with Intent
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Possession of a Weapon x 2

He was detained in custody.
