Assault with a Weapon - Arrest: C22-301936

On December 31, 2022, at approximately 5:15 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to an apartment complex in the 300 block of Goulet Street for the report of a female suspect causing a disturbance.

East District General Patrol attended and located two adult male victims suffering from upper body stab wounds. A 58-year-old male victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition, while a  67-year-old male victim was transported to hospital in stable condition. Officers located the female in a hallway and safely placed her under arrest. Two weapons were seized as evidence.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the suspect was in a common hallway of the complex, causing a disturbance by knocking on residents’ doors. The 58-year-old victim attended to the hallway when the suspect brandished a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed the victim in the upper body. The 67-year-old victim attended the hallway to assist the first victim when he was also stabbed by the suspect in the upper body.

The victims and the suspect were not previously known to one another.

Michelle Renee BERTHELLETTE, 48, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

- Assault with a Weapon x 2
- Possession of a Weapon x 2
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment

She was detained in custody.
