Homicide – Update: C22-287618

On December 13, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit arrested and charged a fourth youth regarding the murder of Tyree CAYER.

A 14-year-old male has been charged with Manslaughter and was detained in custody.

The three previously arrested youths have since been formally charged and are all detained in custody.

Investigators do not anticipate any additional arrests.

As previously released:

Members of the Homicide Unit continued investigating a stabbing-related homicide on December 11 at the Millennium Library, 251 Donald Street. The victim was identified as a 28-year-old male, Tyree CAYER of Winnipeg.

Investigators learned the suspects and the victim became involved in a verbal dispute that escalated with the suspects physically assaulting the victim. During the assault, the victim was stabbed by one of the suspects resulting in serious injury. Emergency services provided medical care to the victim; however, he succumbed to his injuries. All suspects fled on foot before police arrived.

Investigators have identified three suspects and subsequently arrested three male youths without incident.

A 15-year-old male youth and a 16-year-old male, both from Winnipeg, are facing the following charge:

- Manslaughter

A 14-year-old male youth from Winnipeg is facing the following charge:

- Second Degree Murder

They remain in police custody.

The Homicide Unit is continuing the investigation and anticipates further arrest(s).
