On October 15, 2022, at 11:11 p.m., Central District General Patrol units responded to the first 100 block of Isabel Street for a report of a person being assaulted.

Officers, with the assistance of Air1, located an injured male suffering bodily injuries sustained from being assaulted. Officers located a suspect on a bicycle a short distance away, and placed him under arrest without incident. The victim was transported to hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. After being released from hospital, the victim returned home to his residence.

The victim was identified as Joshua COURCHENE, a 19-year-old male of Winnipeg.

Jason Vincent DANIELS, 19, of Winnipeg was charged with Assault Cause Bodily Harm and detained in custody.

On October 17, the victim (COURCHENE) was located deceased at his residence, and the Homicide Unit assumed the investigation.

After further investigation and consultation with the medical examiner, it was determined his death was related to his original injuries and charges were upgraded to homicide.

On October 24, members of the Homicide Unit attended the Winnipeg Remand Centre and charged DANIELS with Second Degree Murder.

He remains in custody.
