On September 19, 2022, at 11:44 p.m., East District General Patrol officers, with the assistance of the K9 Unit and AIR1, responded to the 500 block of St. Mary’s Road for a report of a male and female both believed to be armed with a firearm and chasing a male. A gunshot had also been heard.

Upon arrival, officers could not locate a victim but were later flagged down by a witness who reported seeing a female on the hood of a nearby vehicle.

They attended the area and found a male (in his 20s) who reported driving on St. Mary’s Road when a female stepped out in front of his vehicle and jumped on it. A male then approached and robbed him of his car at gunpoint.

While officers were on the scene with the victim, the stolen vehicle drove past and crashed into a nearby utility pole. Two suspects fled the car, but with the support of AIR1 and ground units, both were located attempting to hide in the neighbourhood. Two weapons were recovered – a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle and a replica airsoft handgun.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued the investigation. They determined that a second robbery had occurred before the vehicle was stolen, resulting in the initial 911 call of the male being chased.

A male victim (in his 30s) had been in the area when two suspects confronted him at gunpoint. They demanded his property, and when the victim ran, a shot was fired in his direction. The victim was uninjured and fled but did not initially report the incident.
