On September 7, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of two separate stabbing incidents in the North Kildonan neighbourhood of the city.
Officers from the East District attended the first victim’s residence and located a 43-year-old male suffering from upper body injuries sustained from a stabbing. Officers learned that the two suspects approached the victim in the vicinity of Arby Park between Springfield Road and Roch Street when one of the suspects brandished a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed the victim without provocation. The victim was robbed of his headphones during the robbery. He was transported to hospital in stable condition and released after receiving medical treatment.
In a second incident, officers from East District attended to the 300 block of Springfield Road and located a 32-year-old male suffering from upper-body injuries sustained from a stabbing. He was transported to hospital in critical condition. Officers learned that two suspects approached the victim as he was walking, robbed him of personal property and stabbed him in an unprovoked manner. Both suspects fled before police arrived.
Through their investigation, officers identified several suspects involved in the attacks.
With the assistance of Central District General Patrol and the Tactical Support Team, a youth male and youth female were located in the 200 block of Portage Avenue and placed under arrest without incident.
Officers believe the suspects and the victims were previously unknown to one another. Both incidents appear to be random in nature and unprovoked.
A 14-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Robbery x 2
- Aggravated Assault
- Assault Cause Bodily Harm
A 16-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Robbery x 2
- Aggravated Assault
- Assault Cause Bodily Harm
Both were released on undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.
