On September 3, 2022, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a gun call at an apartment complex in the Seven Oaks neighbourhood.

A teenage victim was located with a gunshot wound to her upper body and transported to hospital in stable condition.

An initial investigation established that a teenager was babysitting a toddler while an adult was asleep within the suite. The toddler accessed an insecure-loaded gun and was running around the suite. The babysitter quickly removed the gun from the child, and it accidentally discharged, striking her.

A 20-year-old female of Winnipeg was arrested on scene and is facing the following charges:

- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regs
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

She was released on an Undertaking.
