On July 24, 2022, at approximately 12:35 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the intersection of Pembina Highway and University Crescent for the report of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

Officers of the West District attended and located a 24-year-old male in the boulevard suffering from multiple injuries. Officers were advised that the involved vehicle and occupant had left the accident scene. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

Officers identified and located the involved vehicle in the first block of Farwell Bay and noted it had sustained extensive front-end damage. Officers also identified a suspect who had since fled the residence.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the Traffic Safety and Collision Investigation Sections re-attended the residence, arrested the suspect, and placed him in custody without incident.

Investigators believe the victim was crossing Pembina Highway when he was struck by a vehicle that had disobeyed a red traffic light signal, projecting him a considerable distance onto the boulevard. The victim sustained several injuries due to the impact caused by the collision.

A 22-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

- Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident Knowing That or Reckless as to Whether They Were Involved in an Accident Causing Bodily Harm

He is also facing the following charges under the Highway Traffic Act:
