On July 15, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to school grounds located in the first 100 block of Neville Street for the report of an adult female camp counsellor who had been assaulted.

Officers from the North District attended the school yard and located an 18-year-old female victim (a daycamp staff member) suffering from the effects of being sprayed with an unknown substance. The lingering noxious spray affected six other children participating in the daycamp (victims ages 6 to 9 years old). Police, provided emergency medical care, and nobody required transportation to hospital.

An initial investigation determined that while working at the day camp, the adult victim was confronted by two youths previously known to her. She was assaulted with the spray, and the suspects fled the school grounds.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., officers arrested a 16-year-old male of Winnipeg. He is facing seven charges related to Assault with a Weapon.

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
