On June 29, 2022, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a robbery along the footpath south of Portage/Empress.
Officers met with the victim in his twenties, who indicated that he was walking southwest of the cemetery just minutes earlier when confronted by an unknown male brandishing a sharp object. The suspect demanded the victim’s property and slashed him with the object, cutting through his shirt. The victim managed to escape, and the suspect fled in the other direction.
The suspect is described as:
- A very tanned, Indigenous male in his forties to fifties
- Tall, over 6 feet in height, heavy build with a noticeable belly
- Wearing black pants, a black sweater and a black toque
- His voice was described as “raspy/gravelly” sounding
