Transit Assault with a Weapon – Arrest: C22-140598

On June 26, 2022, police entered into an investigation after a bus driver, and a passenger was assaulted with bear spray aboard a bus travelling southbound on Main Street at approximately 10:30 p.m. A male suspect incited an argument with an unknown female passenger. The driver stopped to diffuse the situation when he and the female were subsequently assaulted with bear spray. The suspect then kicked and broke the bus's front doors and made his escape.

The two victims were treated for their exposure to bear spray.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., police were alerted to another incident where a male (believed to be the same suspect) discharged bear spray on another bus. The suspect exited the bus and took off running.
At approximately midnight (June 27), officers located the suspect in the 200 block of Portage Avenue, where a short foot pursuit occurred. He was arrested at Portage/Main and found in possession of approximately 5 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $400.

A 17-year-old youth male of Winnipeg was charged with the following offences:

- Assault with a Weapon x 2
- Mischief Under $5,000
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Cocaine
- Fail to Comply with Release Order x 3

He was detained in custody.
