Homicide – Update/Arrest: C22-94660

As previously released:

On May 6, 2022, at 10:29 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service officers located an injured male near the Slaw Rebchuk Bridge. Officers provided emergency medical care, and the male, Richard Dominic Anthony Contois, a 31-year-old of Winnipeg, was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation, and on May 17, 2022, a 17-year-old male of Winnipeg was charged with second-degree murder.

Update:

On June 3, 2022, members of the RCMP arrested a second suspect in Norway House, Manitoba. The suspect was returned to Winnipeg, and Joseph Bruce Evans, a 19-year-old male of Norway House, Manitoba, has been charged with second-degree murder. He was detained in custody.

It is believed that the victim and suspects were previously unknown to each other, and an altercation escalated to the victim being stabbed.
