As previously released:
On May 31, 2022, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to reports of a shooting at a lounge in the 1800 block of Portage Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers determined a shooting had occurred within the establishment, and two suspects had then fled the scene. Shortly after, an adult male believed to be involved in this incident attended the hospital with a serious gunshot wound. No other patrons were injured.
Update:
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. It is believed that the shooting victim had been in possession of a firearm himself before being shot by another male.
Henry Kakegamic, a 24-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
He was detained.
The investigation is continuing.
