Firearms – Arrest: R22-20147

On May 2, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Firearms Investigative Enforcement Unit (FIEU), with the assistance of the RCMP’s National Weapons Enforcement and Support Team (NWEST), began an investigation into the trafficking of firearms.

Investigators subsequently applied for and were granted a Criminal Code search warrant and a public safety warrant.

On May 5, 2022, members of the RCMP’s Emergency Response Unit, NWEST and FIEU executed the two warrants at a residence in the first 100 block of Agassiz Drive, Winnipeg. A male was placed under arrest at the time.

A total of 19 firearms were seized, including the following:

- Three unlocked 9mm handguns with ammunition (one which was loaded)
- An unlocked .45 calibre handgun
- An unlocked .22 calibre rifle
- An unlocked 5.56 rifle
- A prohibited AR-10 variant .308 rifle

Four air guns were also seized.

A 22-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing charges of:

- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations (x3)
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm (x4)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

On May 10, 2022, a second male attended the Winnipeg Police Service HQ building and was placed under arrest.

A 23-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing charges of:

- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations (x6)
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition (x3)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

Both were released on Undertakings (as mandated by the Criminal Code).
