Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C22-98353

On May 10, 2022, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a stabbing incident at a shelter located in the North End of Winnipeg.

North District officers with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team attended and located a male youth in the shelter armed with a machete. Officers safely placed him into custody. Two victims suffering from upper-body injuries were also located within the shelter.

The Major Crimes Unit continued its investigation and determined that the accused and the first victim became involved in a verbal argument. The argument escalated with the accused arming himself with a machete and assaulting the victim causing injuries to the upper body. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The second victim, who attempted to intervene, was also attacked, causing a minor upper body injury for which he did not require medical attention.

The investigation determined that all three involved parties were known to each other.

A 17-year-old male youth of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:

- Aggravated Assault
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon
- Fail to Comply with Conditions of Release Order x 7

He was detained in custody.
