On February 1, 2022, at 10:59 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a shelter in the South Point Douglas area for a report of a male damaging a window with a machete.
Soon after, officers located the male in the area and safely took him into custody.
It is believed that the male had been rejected entry to the shelter due to past behaviour, at which time he punched a security guard and began swinging the weapon—striking protective glass near a staff office.
Blake Matthew Chief, a 26-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Assault
- Possession of a Weapon
- Carrying Concealed Weapon
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x3)
He was detained in custody.
