Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg invites citizens to come in and cool off in civic facilities during regular operating hours this weekend and into next week, as extreme temperatures are forecasted.
City facilities that are normally open on weekdays and weekends are available to act as 'cooling areas' where the public may come in for relief from the heat, read a book or magazine, and have access to drinking water.
City pools and spray pads are also great ways to cool down.
Other City facilities that can offer relief from the heat include:
Leisure Centres
In addition to weekdays, most City leisure centres are open Saturdays and Sundays. For locations and hours, please contact 311 or visit City of Winnipeg - Leisure Centres.
Libraries
All library locations and hours are available by contacting 311 or visiting City of Winnipeg - Winnipeg Public Library.
Pools and Spray Pads
The City offers a variety of indoor and outdoor swimming options, as well as spray pads and wading pools. For information on weekday/weekend hours of operation of spray pads, wading pools and indoor/outdoor swimming pools please contact 311 or visit:

Safety Tips for Hot Weather
When using additional cooling appliances such as portable air conditioners, citizens are reminded not to overload electrical circuits as this can create a fire risk. Use dedicated circuits, and plug the unit directly into a receptacle without the use of extension cords.
Citizens are also reminded to never leave people or pets unattended in parked vehicles even for a few minutes, as temperatures can rise quickly and create a dangerous environment.
Be sure to check on seniors and other vulnerable people, particularly those who may be isolated from friends and family, as well as young children and pets who may be more susceptible to heat-related illnesses during extreme temperatures.
