Winnipeg Public Libraries

Visit your local library this spring break, and check out all of the fantastic free events for families, kids and teens! We’ve got lots of programs to keep everyone busy, including animation workshops, bookmaking, writing workshops, storytelling, and musical performances by Aaron Burnett, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and more! Mockingjay Mania: Charleswood Library, Saturday, March 28 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Come celebrate the hit novel Mockingjay and put your library survival skills to the test. Take part in a variety of book-inspired activities and challenges including a Mockingjay craft, trivia, a scavenger hunt and more! Grades 7 to 12. Call the Charleswood Library at 204-986-3072 to register.

Fun with Makey Makey: Sir William Stephenson Library, Saturday, March 28 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Play around with Makey Makey, an invention kit that will have you using everyday objects to control your computer. Use a banana, a fork, or even a paper plate to play online games and instruments! Ages 9 to 12. Call Sir William Stephenson Library at 204-986-7070 to register.

Aaron Burnett: Louis Riel Library, Saturday, March 28 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Windsor Park Library, Saturday, April 4 from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m.
Join us for some toe-tapping tunes about Canadian animals with Juno-nominated family entertainer, Aaron Burnett. Get up and dance, join in with some fun actions, and learn American Sign Language to the chorus of many of the songs! Families welcome. Hardcover Handbags: Windsor Park Library, Tuesday, March 31 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
How do we recycle vintage book covers? We transform them into colourful and unique handbags! Join us for this exciting craft where we’ll discover the character of old book covers and create practical yet fashionable new handbags. Grades 7 to 12. Marble Run Mania: West End Library, Tuesday, March 31 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Design and build your own marble run using cardboard recyclables, then watch those marbles fly! Experiment with speed, gravity, angles and your imagination. Ages 9 to 12. Call West End Library at 204-986-4677 to register.

Plot and Plan with a Story Board: Westwood Library, Tuesday, March 31 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
When you travel to a new place, it helps to use a map. So, why not make a "map" for your new story? Learn how to create a story board to ensure that your next story is sensationally structured and perfectly plotted! Ages 9 to 12. Call Westwood Library at 204-986-4747 to register.

Improv Workshop: Osborne Library, Thursday, April 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Henderson Library, Saturday, April 4 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Come and learn how to build a story, on the spot, with improv! Strengthen your writing skills and your knowledge of storytelling for an audience. Fiddlers on the Loose: West End Library, Saturday, April 4 from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra comes to the Library with live - and lively! - performances. Listen to the wide range of entertaining musical styles and discover how the instruments make the sounds they do. Families welcome. Call the West End Library at 204-986-4677 to register.

Little Red’s Most Unusual Day: Saturday, April 4 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Local opera ensemble Three Little Birds Productions present scenes from a twisted tale of Little Red Riding Hood. We'll have fun learning a little about music, singing and opera! Call the Millennium Library at 204-986-6488 to register.

City of Winnipeg Aquatics

Free Swim schedules and information on reduced-fee admissions for all pools is available for all pools at City of Winnipeg - Indoor Pools.

Please note that Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex is the only pool open on Good Friday, April 3, and will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. All pools will close at 4:00 p.m. on Easter Sunday.

Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Easter Monday; Pan Am is open on Easter Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All other pools are closed on Easter Monday.
