Winnipeg, MB - Once again, Winnipeggers will have the opportunity to shape the City Budget as the City of Winnipeg seeks input from citizens, community organizations, City Councillors and the Winnipeg Public Service on spending priorities, evaluating an effective process, and developing solutions and options to address challenges now and into the future. The results of this process will inform and guide this fall’s newly elected Council for the City’s 2015 Operating and Capital budget process.
This process will build on last year’s budget consultations with a goal of increasing participation by citizens, community organizations, interested stakeholders, Councillors, and the public service, through a wide variety of inclusive opportunities to make their voices, ideas and suggestions heard.
Winnipeg’s 2015 budget consultation will focus on:
- Generating solutions and innovative ideas on how to increase revenue, find efficiencies or address complex challenges facing the City;
- Working with participants to develop long-term solutions and ideas to create the positive future envisioned in the OurWinnipeg plan;
- Identifying opportunities for City Council to play an active role in the budget process; and
- Creating a scorecard so the success of the consultation process can be measured.
Dialogue Partners Inc. was chosen through a competitive bid process. Dialogue Partners has also conducted engagement programs with the Canadian government, municipalities across Canada, and has worked extensively internationally.
The public engagement process begins mid-April and will give multiple opportunities for citizens, Councillors and the public service to be involved, with a final report to be completed in June. Information on how to get involved during this process will be available in the coming weeks.
