City accepting applications for the Vehicles for Hire Advisory Committee

Released: May 3, 2018 at 1:50 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is accepting applications to be a member of the Vehicles for Hire Advisory Committee. The City recognizes the need for ongoing dialogue to ensure vehicles for hire issues are dealt with in a manner most relevant to passengers and those working in the industry. Advisory committee members will discuss vehicles for hire and provide their input directly to the Winnipeg Parking Authority.

The City is seeking individuals interested in working with other stakeholders to provide insight to the Winnipeg Parking Authority on the regulation of vehicles for hire. The Vehicles for Hire Advisory Committee will be established to:

  • Advise the Winnipeg Parking Authority on community-based and industry-based issues, city-wide priorities and other matters related to vehicles for hire operations in Winnipeg including, but not limited to, safety and accessibility; and,
  • Provide a direct line of communication between those using and operating vehicles for hire and those regulating vehicles for hire in Winnipeg.

The Vehicles for Hire By-law No. 129/2017 was approved by Council on December 13, 2017 and came into effect on February 28, 2018. The Public Service will report back to Council every year for the first five years and ongoing stakeholder engagement is critical to provide input on issues as they arise and contribute towards annual reports back to Council.

The terms of reference and application form for the Vehicles for Hire Advisory Committee can be found on winnipeg.ca/vehiclesforhire. Completed application forms can be submitted to and will be accepted until June 1, 2018.
