Mayoral hopefuls can officially register for 2018 Civic Election

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg announced today that the campaign period for Winnipeggers seeking election to the Office of Mayor is officially open.

The 2018 City of Winnipeg Municipal and School Boards Election will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. Eligible voters will have the opportunity to cast ballots for Mayor, Councillors, and School Trustees.

Individuals seeking election to the Office of Mayor must register in-person with the Senior Election Official at the City Clerk’s Department located on the main floor of the Susan A Thompson Building, 510 Main St., weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.

The deadline for registration is Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. All candidates who wish to register must ensure the required information is included with their registration form. The list of requirements can be found in the Campaign Expenses and Contributions Guide.

Candidates must be registered prior to soliciting or collecting any campaign funding, expending any funds on their campaign (such as advertising), or borrowing funds.

The registration period for Councillor candidates begins on Saturday, June 30, 2018. There is no legislatively defined campaign period nor are there any campaign expense rules for School Trustee candidates.

The list of candidates will be posted online and updated as registrations are received.
