Winnipeg, MB - “thank you” goes out to more than 150 citizens who offered trees from their yards to become the star of City Hall for the holiday season.
The annual tradition of moving a citizen-donated Christmas tree to City Hall will take place this Sunday, November 9.
This year’s tree comes from Mr. Boris Todoruk’s yard at 625 Springfield Road. The 12-metre-high (40 foot) tree is a Colorado blue spruce, cylindrical in form, and has a full canopy all the way to the ground. The tree is estimated to be about 50 years old.
“It’s always wonderful to look out during the bleak winter months when snow is on the ground and see a beautiful green tree,” said Todoruk. “This tree has really grown too big for my yard. I’ll miss it, but donating it for City Hall’s holiday display seemed like a fitting way to say good-bye to such a lovely tree.”
“After looking at so many offers, we quickly selected this one as soon as we saw its height and full branches right to the ground,” said City Forester Martha Barwinsky. “It will look wonderful all lit up as our beacon for the holiday season at City Hall.”
On October 17, 2014, the City issued a news release asking citizens to submit their trees for consideration to become the 2014 City Hall Christmas tree. The City would like to thank all residents who submitted information on their trees.
