Little known facts about the City Hall Christmas Tree The tree is placed in front of City Hall at the corner of Main St. and Market Ave . It takes a 32,000 kg crane and a flatbed to remove and transport the tree from the owner's yard to City Hall. The width of the tree is usually 9 meters (30 feet) across, so to meet the required height restrictions for road travel the tree is tied down to only 3 meters. By the time the tree is decorated, it can weigh as much as 1,800 kg or 4,000 pounds. The 11,000 LED bulbs on the tree are attached by hand. Lights run the length of each branch, fastened with plastic ties.
The 2011 tree has been chosen and is in the process of getting decorated. Thank you to all of you who have offered your tree, please try again next year. |
