Second Public Open House to be held tomorrow

Winnipeg, MB - As the Plessis Road Underpass project moves closer to the start of construction, the public is invited to attend an open house tomorrow that will include further project details.

This marks the second Open House for the $77 million project. The first Open House was held in February 2013 and was attended by over 300 participants. Feedback on various aspects of the project was collected at the Open House and through an online survey.

The public’s feedback was received and areas that have since been addressed include:

  • Alternative routes during construction
  • Effects on area drainage
  • Traffic improvement following construction

The $77 million project will include an underpass of the Canadian National Rail line. The underpass is to be located north of the Plessis Road and Dugald Road intersection.

“The public response and support for this crucial underpass project has been tremendous and the community is excited about the coming construction,” said Transcona Councillor Russ Wyatt.

Plessis Road will be closed between Dugald Road and the rail crossing from late July 2013 until the end of 2014. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative regional streets such as Regent Avenue West, Dugald Road, Ravenhurst Street and Lagimodiere Boulevard. During construction, regional information signs at nearby major intersections will be erected and signal timing will be modified.

Construction is expected to commence in late June and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2014. The project will include:

  • Land drainage system improvements.
  • Active Transportation facilities.
  • Roadway improvements on Plessis Road, upgrading from two lanes to four lanes divided, between Dugald Road and Pandora Avenue.
  • Relocation of utilities, including water mains, sewers, fibre optic cables, gas mains, distribution poles, street lights and electrical lines.
  • Relocation of oil pipelines.

The Open House will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Canad Inns Transcona, 826 Regent Avenue West.
