Map displays 2017 construction projects in an easy-to-access format

Winnipeg, MB - As construction season ramps up, the City has a new tool to help Winnipeggers get information about construction projects happening this year. Today, the City launched a new online road construction map that displays the Public Works Department’s 2017 road construction projects in an easy-to-access format. Projects shown on the map include more than 150 road construction projects scheduled for this year, as well as pedestrian and cycling projects, streets maintenance projects and traffic signal upgrades.

“With such a significant investment in the City’s infrastructure this year, Winnipeggers can expect a busy and productive construction season,” said Councillor Marty Morantz, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works. “This online map is a great tool to help citizens see the work that this investment is going towards, and help plan their travel routes.”

The road construction map provides project information visually by location. By clicking on a highlighted project on the map, a box will appear with project details such as:

  1. type of infrastructure (street, alley, sidewalk, traffic signal, bridge project, pedestrian and cycling path),
  2. type of construction work (reconstruction, rehabilitation, mill and fill, thin bituminous overlay),
  3. estimated start date,
  4. estimated end date,
  5. percentage completed, and
  6. consultant and contractor information.

As construction projects begin, start dates, completion dates and per cent complete will be updated to reflect project status. Project information is also available in a list format.

The interactive road construction map can be accessed at City of Winnipeg - Road Construction Map.

Download Waze
While the City is making every effort to coordinate construction projects and mitigate their impacts as much as possible, with the volume of work this year, some delays and disruption can be expected. The City encourages motorists to plan ahead, allow additional travel time and strongly encourages Winnipeggers to download and use the Waze app for the fastest route every day. By using Waze, the free, real-time traffic and navigation app, Winnipeg drivers can share and receive anonymous traffic information from the City’s Transportation Management Centre (TMC) and other drivers to assist them with deciding which routes to take and which routes to avoid.

The City’s Transportation Management Centre (TMC) will also be posting all lane closures on major streets to the Waze app. Lane closures can also be viewed on the City’s website.

The City thanks Winnipeggers for their patience as these important infrastructure projects are underway. More information about road construction in the City is available at winnipeg.ca/roadconstruction
