Motorists urged to drive to winter road conditions, slow down, and to allow additional travel time

Winnipeg, MB - In response to heavy accumulations of snow, today City crews are continuing to plow and sand main routes, bus routes and collector streets. This operation will continue tonight and on Wednesday to improve traction and traffic flow during this winter storm. Sidewalks on main routes and active transportation paths adjacent to main routes are also being cleared. Starting Wednesday at 7:00 a.m., plowing of back lanes will begin and will continue until completed. All snow disposal sites will open tonight at 7:00 p.m.

The City’s Public Works Department is monitoring road and sidewalk conditions and further decisions will be made as the weather system passes through the City.

Avoid a ticket and tow

The City's Annual Snow Route Parking Ban is in effect from 2:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. nightly until March 1, 2017. Snow routes are clearly marked with signs like these:

Snow routes are a top priority for snow clearing to ensure that emergency vehicles can navigate quickly and safely around the city. It’s important that vehicles are not parked on snow routes overnight in order to enable rapid and efficient snow clearing of these critical routes.

Vehicles parked in violation of the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban can receive a $100 ticket ($50 if paid early), and may be towed to the towing company’s compound.

Stay Back, Stay Safe
Motorists are urged to drive to road conditions, and to use extreme caution when driving near any snow clearing equipment or sanding trucks.
