City of Winnipeg to present options for crossing the CPR Yards at Open House

Winnipeg, MB - The Arlington Bridge over the CPR Yards is nearing the end of its useful life and fixing it is not possible. In order to develop a plan to ensure pedestrians, cyclists and motorists can move safely and efficiently across the railway yards, the City has been progressing with the CPR Yards Crossing Study and will be presenting recommended options at two upcoming open houses.

Through the results of thorough research, engineering analysis, collaborative planning, and involvement from people who live and work in the area, and city-wide, the study recommendation will be to replace the Arlington Bridge as the short term solution on its current alignment or adjacent to it. This crossing is vital to maintaining and improving community health and supporting the existing transportation needs of the north end.

It has been determined that replacing the crossing at Arlington Street alone will not sustain the projected growth of the City and an additional, long term solution is also required to support the City transportation needs. Two options have been developed for the long term solution: widening the McPhillips Underpass or constructing a new tunnel connecting Sherbrook Street and McGregor Street.

The public is invited to open houses to provide input and feedback on the crossing options

Come share your thoughts about the project, hear what the community has told us so far, and see the crossing options that are being considered.
