Winnipeg, MB - At 4:54 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, firefighters and paramedics from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a report of a fire in a wood-framed bungalow in the first one-hundred block of Payment Street. Upon arrival crews discovered that the attached garage and residence were well-involved and that the fire had already begun to spread to a neighbouring two-storey home.
Fire crews launched an aggressive exterior attack at both properties which allowed crews safe access to interiors for additional fire suppression. A third home also sustained some exterior damage caused by radiant heat.
This was a prolonged event, as fire crews and paramedics had to be rotated due to the exceptionally cold weather conditions. Crews responded from 13 different stations and remained on scene until late this morning to extinguish hotspots.
Occupants of the impacted properties had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews and sustained no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
