Winnipeg, MB - Mayor Sam Katz today officially launched a new web portal dubbed NOW (Neighbourhoods of Winnipeg), a leading edge website that provides wide-ranging information about Winnipeg’s 236 neighbourhoods.

This new resource is ideal for people who live in the city or are considering moving here, visitors, students and researchers, community groups preparing funding proposals and businesses looking at Winnipeg as a place to set up shop.

“We want to attract new investment to the city and, at the same time, ensure that Winnipeg remains healthy and viable for existing businesses to thrive and grow,” said Mayor Katz. “The new web portal, Neighbourhoods of Winnipeg"or NOW"is one way that we are making it easy to do business within the City of Winnipeg.”

NOW provides a single point of access for information such as location of schools and libraries, census and demographic information, historical data and mapping information.

A new Economic Development feature included in the portal was developed in partnership with Economic Development Winnipeg Inc. (EDW) and WinnipegREALTORSâ. This is an important component for providing key information to those considering locating a business in Winnipeg or existing businesses looking to expand or relocate within the city.

Economic Development Winnipeg Inc. was pleased to collaborate in the development of Neighbourhoods of Winnipeg. The interactive site supports EDW’s mandate to lead investment attraction, capacity building, tourism development, marketing and promotion as well as research of market information for Winnipeg.

“Economic Development Winnipeg, the city of Winnipeg’s lead economic development agency, is excited to participate in the launch of NOW. NOW is an innovative project that supports our mandate as an economic development and investment promotion agency deeply focused on global investment attraction and business retention and expansion in Winnipeg,” said Marina James, President & CEO, Economic Development Winnipeg Inc. “NOW is a tool our citizens can use to learn more about Winnipeg and discover what makes our neighbourhoods so unique, creative, and culturally diverse. Attracting and retaining people in Winnipeg is a critical part of a healthy city and contributes greatly to our quality of life. NOW is another tool that people can use to stay informed about our city.

“WinnipegREALTORSâ and its over 1700 members have been ardent supporters of Winnipeg since its inception in 1903,” said Richard Dettman, president of WinnipegREALTORSâ. We could not be more pleased to partner on a new City of Winnipeg portal dedicated to promoting the city’s 236 neighbourhoods as well as opportunities for investment through the economic development section where our commercial member listings are located. It is all about us working together to make Winnipeg a city we, and others considering relocating here, will be proud to call home.”
