Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeg’s Southwest Transitway Project received the prestigious Award of Excellence in the Infrastructure and Transportation category at the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Manitoba 2013 Awards of Excellence dinner held last week.
The ACEC recognized the best of Manitoba’s engineering profession in innovation, the advancement of technology and contributions to society at its annual awards event attended by over 300 representatives of the engineering industry, government and Manitoba’s business community.
"Winnipeg Transit is excited and honoured to have Stage One of the Southwest Transitway recognized at the 2013 ACEC Awards of Excellence Event,” said Dave Wardrop, Director of Winnipeg Transit. “Congratulations to our Project Consultant, Dillon Consulting Limited, and to all of our staff that participated in, and contributed to the successful delivery of the first leg of the Southwest Transitway. It is terrific to have the efforts of staff formally recognized by a professional organization such as ACEC, as well as being a tribute to the success of such an important project and our organization as a whole."
A complex project in both design and construction, the Southwest Transitway was built within an existing dense, urban environment on an alignment in immediate proximity to the CN mainline, the Red River, a Manitoba Hydro substation, major arterial roads, multiple underground utilities, and several private properties. The ACEC Award of Excellence recognizes Transit’s and its consultant Dillon Consulting Limited’s ability to embrace these complexities to deliver the project on time and on budget with rapid transit service beginning in April of 2012.
