WINNIPEG, MB - The City of Winnipeg is urging residents to move their vehicles when residential streets in snow zones are scheduled for clearing today and tomorrow. Residents should plan ahead about where they will park in appropriate off-street locations like driveways, parking lots or residential streets that have already been cleared. This will help the snow clearing operation run smoothly and will prevent motorists from being ticketed and towed.
“The residential plowing operation is about half complete at this point,” said Ken Boyd, Manager of the Streets Maintenance Division of Public Works. “Crews continue working to get most of the residential streets cleared by 7:00 p.m. tomorrow. In some zones, vehicles parked in the way are slowing down plowing crews, so we are asking Winnipeggers to move their vehicles when their street is scheduled, so our plows can clear the streets unimpeded.”
In most cases, if a portion of a zone has not been cleared as scheduled, crews will return once the overall plowing operation has been completed. In the meantime, residents can park on their street since the Residential Parking Ban only applies during the 12-hour period scheduled. Over 250 pieces of heavy equipment such as motor graders and front-end loaders are working as quickly as possible to clear the remaining residential streets.
Vehicles parked in violation of the residential parking ban will receive a $150 ticket ($75 if paid early), and may be towed to a nearby street that is not scheduled to be plowed or that has already been plowed. If you believe your vehicle may have been towed due to the residential parking ban, please contact 311 for assistance in locating it.
Starting at 7:00 p.m. today, January 16, and continuing until 7:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, plowing operations will be conducted on residential streets (P3s) snow zone D.
Starting at 7:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17, residents of snow zone C will need to move their vehicles as plowing will be underway in that zone until 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
Residents are encouraged to visit knowyourzone.winnipeg.ca or call 311 to confirm their residential snow zone letter, and to determine when their snow zone is scheduled to be cleared. The public is also encouraged to sign up in advance for email or Twitter notifications through knowyourzone.winnipeg.ca to find out when designated snow zones are scheduled for plowing.
There will not be warning notifications during this Residential Parking Ban. Tickets will be issued and vehicles may be towed if parked in violation of the ban.

Motorists are reminded to drive to road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any plowing or salting/sanding equipment.
Plowing operations are continuing in accordance with the City Council approved Snow Clearing and Ice Control Policy, which can be found online at winnipeg.ca/publicworks/snow/snow-clearing-policy.stm.
