West End Biz - New Safety Guide for Crime Prevention
The Winnipeg Police Service has partnered with the West End BIZ and the Winnipeg Committee for Safety to produce the latest edition of “Partners in Prevention”, a Crime Prevention & Safety Awareness Guide for Businesses & Their Employees.
The guide is a hands-on educational resource providing valuable information to help prevent businesses and individuals from becoming a victim of crime. Safety Initiatives and a “Who do you call?” reference sheet of critical contact numbers is included in the guide.
The guide is now available for anyone to download at no cost from the BIZ’s website, Partners in Prevention. Hardcopies are available at the BIZ office - 581 Portage Avenue.
Robbery: C17-264410
On November 23, 2017 at approximately 6:15 p.m., a 27-year-old male contacted Winnipeg Police and advised that he had just been robbed. The victim he was walking in the area of Clare Avenue and Hay Street when he was approached by two males who were armed with a machete and bear spray. The males demanded the victim's personal belongings. The victim complied and the males fled.
One suspect is described as Indigenous, 18 - 22 years of age, 5'5" - 5'7" with a moustache. He was dressed in a black toque, black jacket and black pants.
The second suspect is described as Indigenous, 18-22 years of age, 5'7", wearing a baseball cap, black hoodie with a white stripe on the front, and blue jeans.
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
Robbery: C17-264323
On November 23, 2017 the Winnipeg Police Service was contacted by a male who advised that he has just been robbed. At approximately 4:05 p.m., he was attempting to sell his cell phone which he advised online. He attended to a residence in the 500 block of Atlantic Avenue where the potential buyer entered his vehicle. The suspect produced a machete style knife and demanded the victim's personal property. The victim complied and fled the vehicle. The victim was not injured.
The suspect is described as Indigenous, 18-19 years of age, 5'9", and approximately 140 pounds with a thin build. He was acne on his face and a scruffy beard. He was wearing a grey hoodie, black jeans and a black toque.
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
Wanted - 2nd Degree Murder: C17-166069
The Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit is requesting the public's assistance in locating the following male:
Edmond CHARTRAND, 29-years-old, of Winnipeg. He is described as Indigenous, 6', 170 lbs, with short black hair and brown eyes.
On July 27, 2017, at approximately 7:45 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a residence in the 100 block of Euclid Avenue for a report of an injured male.
Upon arrival, officers located both a 29-year-old male and a 31-year-old female who had been stabbed. The victims were transported to hospital in critical condition. The female was upgraded to stable condition; however, the male has succumbed to his injuries.
