Sudden Death Investigation - Update

As previously released, on September 26th, 2009 at approximately 7:00 p.m., emergency services responded to a bus shelter at Jefferson Avenue and Main Street where they located an unconscious male.

Raymond BARANOWSKI, 57 years of age of Winnipeg was conveyed to hospital in unstable condition where he later died.

The investigation continued by members of the Homicide Unit.

An autopsy has taken place and it has been determined that the cause of death is not suspicious in nature. The cause of death is pending toxicology reports.

Suspicious Circumstance - Update

As previously released, on September 28th, 2009 at approximately 10:15 p.m., uniformed members responded to the area of the 500 block of Balmoral Street regarding a domestic related matter.

Further to the incident, the individual apprehended by police in the area of the 300 block of Kennedy Street, unrelated to the domestic investigation, has been identified as a 31 year old male. He remains in hospital and has been upgraded to stable condition.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.

Important Notice - Public Service Hours Change

In order for the Winnipeg Police Service to be more efficient in processing our criminal record searches we will be closing our phone enquiries and public enquiry counter located on the fourth floor of 151 Princess Street each Friday during the month of October 2009. Regular business hours will continue Monday to Thursday 8:00 A.M. to 3:45 P.M.

Services affected are as follows:

  • Requests for criminal record search
  • Requests for police reports (Incident confirmation)
  • Copy of motor vehicle accident
  • Pardon Documents

This will enable the unit to process enquiries more efficiently as Friday will be used to process enquiries previously made.

Suspicious Death

On September 30th, 2009 at approximately 11:15 a.m., uniformed members were dispatched to the area of the 1400 block of Logan Avenue regarding an injured male.

Attending members located an adult male, at which time he was transported to hospital in critical condition. He has since succumbed to injuries.

The investigation is continuing by members of the the Homicide Unit.
