Assault - Arrests

On February 7th, 2009, shortly after 2:00 P.M., a female and male, who was armed with a baseball bat, attended to a residence in the 500 block of Pritchard Avenue and entered the residence and confronted a 43 year old male and 40 year old female who live at this location.

The victims were assaulted by the suspects who then used a baseball bat to destroy property within the residence and then left.

Both victims sustained minor injuries.

The Winnipeg Police Service Division #13 Crime Unit investigated this incident and has arrested a 35 year old male who was released on a Promise to Appear and faces charges of:

  • Break, Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Mischief Under $5,000

A 39 year old female has also been arrested and charged with:

  • Break, Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Assault X 2
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Recognizance X 2

She was detained in custody.

Impaired Driving - Arrest

On April 8th, 2009, around 11:50 P.M., a male was driving erratically in a parking lot in the 1700 block of Henderson Highway and narrowly missed hitting a pedestrian before colliding with an unmarked police unit and fleeing the scene.

The vehicle was stopped in the area of Main Street and Burrin Avenue where the male driver was found to be impaired.

James Kenneth TOMCHUK, 20 years, of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Impaired Driving
  • Drive Over .08
  • Fail to remain at the scene of an accident and exchange particulars
  • Breach of Probation

He has been detained in custody.

Serious Assault - Arrest

On April 9th, 2009, around 5:30 A.M., a male and female began arguing at a residence in 200 block of College Avenue. The male began physically assaulting the female over a period of several hours and sexually assaulted her and prevented her from leaving.

The female was eventually pushed outside by the male who then pulled the fire alarm in the building.

As a result of the assault the 43 year old female suffered numerous minor injuries

Albert David LAFORREST, 44 years, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Overcoming Resistance to Commit Indictable Offence

He has been detained in custody.

Impaired Driving - Arrest

On April 10th, 2009, shortly after 12:00 A.M., a vehicle was observed being operated erratically and at a high rate of speed in the area of Main Street and Higgins Avenue. Police were unable to catch up to the vehicle and lost site of it as it travelled west bound on Higgins Avenue.

A short time later the same vehicle pulled up beside a marked police unit at Logan Avenue and Sherbrook Street where the male driver yelled at the officers. The male then drove off at a high rate of speed and turned west bound Ross Avenue, nearly losing control.

The vehicle was stopped on Ross Avenue where the male driver was found to be impaired. When taken into the custody the male was also found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine.

Franklin HERNANDEZ-PRADO, 33 years, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Impaired Driving
  • Failure to Provide Breath Sample
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Possessing controlled drug or substance – Cocaine

He has been detained in custody.

Youth Arrested After Removing Electronic Monitoring Device

On March 25th, 2009, a 16 year old female was issued a Probation Order of which one of the conditions was to wear an electronic monitoring device.

On April 9th, 2009, the youth removed the bracelet and police were notified.

Due to the ongoing efforts of the Stolen Auto Unit the 16 year old female was arrested on April 10th in the 700 block of Dufferin Avenue.

This 16 year old female has been charged with:

  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Failure to comply with sentence – Probation – X 4

She has been detained in custody.

Youth Arrested After Removing Electronic Monitoring Device

On June 5th, 2008, a 17 year old female was issued a Probation Order of which one of the conditions was to wear an electronic monitoring device.

On April 6th, 2009, the youth removed the bracelet and police were notified.

Due to the ongoing efforts of the Stolen Auto Unit the 17 year old female was arrested on April 10th, in the 700 block of Dufferin Avenue.

This 17 year old female has been charged with:

  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Failure to comply with sentence – Probation
  • Fail to Comply with Condition Recognizance

She has been detained in custody.
