Arrests Made in Homicide on Flora / McKenzie

Yesterday the Winnipeg Police Service released information regarding a homicide which occurred shortly before 4:00 a.m. in the area pf Flora Avenue and McKenzie Street. An 18-year-old male stabbing victim was rushed to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim is identified as Joshua Lazarus Whiskeyjack, 18 years of Winnipeg.

Members of the Homicide Unit investigated and have arrested two 18-year-old males and a 17-year-old male youth in connection with this homicide. They face murder charges however charges have not yet been laid.

 

Deceased Cyclist Yet to be Identified

Yesterday evening, the Winnipeg Police Service released information regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist which occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Bison Drive between Waverley Street and Markham Road.

The cyclist was taken to hospital shortly after the collision and later succumbed to his injuries. Police have not yet been able to identify the deceased victim and are requesting the public’s assistance in doing so.

The victim is described as: Caucasian male with medium toned skin, approximately 50-60 years of age, over 6 feet tall and heavy set with salt and pepper hair, bald on top. He was wearing a long-sleeved blue button down style “Bum Equipment” shirt, a white baseball cap, white Nike runners and “Foster Grant” sunglasses.

He was riding a “Miele Tivoli Alu 6061” black/green, 21 speed mountain bike with front and rear baskets at the time of the collision.

Anyone who may have information regarding the identity of this male is encouraged to contact police as soon as possible at 986-2880 or 986-6222.

 

Purse Robbery Suspect Apprehended by Witness

Yesterday evening, shortly before 7:30 p.m. a 38-year-old female was sitting in her parked car in front of a business in the 1300 block of Main Street. She was waiting for her friend to exit the business when two males walked up to her and demanded that she exit her car. When she refused, one of the males grabbed for her purse and a struggle ensued. Eventually the culprit was able to forcefully gain possession of the purse and both males fled. The victim was not injured.

A passing motorist observed the robbery and proceeded to chase the suspect who was still in possession of the purse. The witness apprehended the suspect a short distance away and held him with the assistance of other civilians until police arrived. All of the victim’s property was recovered.

Vincent Paul Lillie, 23 years of Winnipeg is charged with Robbery and a Warrant for his arrest for Apprehension and Suspension of Statutory Release was also executed. He was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
