Prostitution Sweep Nets 11

Yesterday evening the Winnipeg Police Service Morals Unit with the support of officers from three other divisions conducted an undercover sweep of several location where the sex trade is a problem. Police arrested and charged 11 women with prostitution related offences in the Dufferin / McGregor, Ellice avenue and Sargent Avenue areas.

There were eight adult women between the ages of 20 to 46 years, and three female youths one 14 and two 17 years. Some were detained and others were released on Promises to Appear. These arrests are the beginning of a planned strategy the Winnipeg Police Service has undertaken to combat the sex trade throughout the city.
 

Wanted Male Turns Himself In

The inmate that was mistakenly released from the Provincial Remand Centre on June 22nd attended the Remand Centre with his lawyer and turned himself in. He will remain in custody on the 2nd Degree Murder charges.
