Theft from Vehicle

Theft from Vehicle is defined as the taking of property from within a vehicle without the owner's permission.

Examples can include the theft of a car stereo, vehicle parts, laptop computer, or other tangible item(s) from a locked or unlocked vehicle.

If your personal or business vehicle was entered and items within were stolen, you may file an online report under the following criteria:

  • The estimated theft is valued under $5000.00
  • The item(s) stolen were not firearms
  • The offence occurred within the City of Winnipeg
  • There are no known suspects or witnesses (name, license plate, etc.)
  • There are no surveillance images or evidence (items) left behind by the suspect(s)

If your vehicle was stolen or has been damaged as a result of an attempted theft, ie. ignition damaged, the offence is not eligible for online reporting. Theft of a licence plate is not eligible for online reporting either.

If your occurrence does not meet the criteria, please call the police non-emergency line at 204-986-6222 or visit a local police station.

If you had property stolen from more than one vehicle, separate reports must be entered for each vehicle.

Filing a false police report is a crime.
